“Equities are there to grow while life insurance is there to provide a known amount of cash, generally tax-free at an unknown point in time.”

-David Fisher

David Fisher, Founder and CEO of Summit Income Planning Group, was featured in a recent InsuranceNewsNet article examining how life insurance can provide liquidity for wealthy families.

In the article “How life insurance can provide liquidity for wealthy families,” Fisher explains why life insurance should be evaluated differently from traditional investment assets, specifically for high-net-worth (HNW) clients who hold significant wealth in businesses, real estate, concentrated stock positions, or other illiquid assets.

He discusses how advisors can compare a client’s life insurance plan to their other fixed-income assets while considering factors such as certainty of delivery, tax treatment, and opportunity cost.

“Giving an estate more time to sell a business or real estate can help maximize the value of those assets. When you’re under a deadline, that’s when buyers come looking for a deal.”

-David Fisher

Fisher also highlights the role life insurance can play in giving families more time to manage an estate, rather than forcing heirs to sell a business, real estate, or other assets under pressure.

He urges advisors and investors to look beyond net worth when developing a comprehensive wealth strategy. For high-net-worth families, that means considering how assets will be managed, transferred, and protected as part of the bigger financial picture. Proper policy structure is also essential, making it important to consult your advisor before incorporating life insurance into an estate strategy.
